In case you'd bought into the notion that Mitch McConnell plans to try
fresh ideas and seek out real accomplishments once he becomes Senate majority leader:
"Number one: We certainly will have a vote on proceeding to a bill to repeal Obamacare. … It was a very large issue in the campaign[.]"
McConnell knows—and has
repeatedly said—that Republicans won't be able to repeal Obamacare. But they're going to waste time on it anyway. Again. If he decides the Senate needs to catch up with the House on that front, we're really in trouble.
He's also talking about holding a vote to take away health insurance from millions of people who are happy with what they've gotten through Obamacare. And, uh, it was not in fact "a very large issue in the campaign." Because Republicans tried and failed to make it an issue, and ultimately backed off of talking about it quite so much. It wasn't "a very large issue" in the vote, either, as exit polls showed.
But Republicans can't help themselves, so brace yourselves to ignore yet another Obamacare repeal vote in Congress.
