New to Kos Katalog, the Amazing Revolving Refraction Generator! I first thought this up sitting in a bar one day, watching the sunlight stream in through a window.
Howdy folks! Patrick here, in my live-in workshop currently way up north in Eagle River WI. I like to think of myself as an artist working in various and sundry media (for a while I played bass, here is an experimental tune I did with three friends. its off-the-cuff so be patient. mushrooms probably help).
Over the years I have had a kind of mobile lifestyle (except for a mandatory minimum), and have made & sold a wide variety of things including as my username suggests, lots of leather stuff. My leather stuff isn't moving like it used to (did everyone stop having sex?) so during the winter while I wait for the next boating season to begin (see my Facebook page!) I am trying to pay the mortgage and bills selling these mobiles. Everyone agrees they are very cool, especially when the sunlight hits it.
Making the acrylic vanes by hand is a long process. I make sets of six at a time and repeating the pattern can take a couple days before I am satisfied. Did you know you can buy Mak-it/Bak-it crystals in bulk? I use measuring spoons to ladle out color after color, over and over.
I lost the baking instructions in the last move and ended up smoking the kitchen up something awful...
After I have some nice fresh wind vanes attached to brass rods,
I set out the baubles.
And hang the leaded glass spheres
Add some hemp twine and its a mobile!
Hopefully by now you are asking yourself: can I get one of these amazing rainbow generators, and is it shipped in a plain brown box?
The answer is Yes and Yes! Yea!!
I am asking $200.00 apiece for a mobile, which includes shipping to anywhere in the Lower 48. I do Paypal as well as checks probably. They are made in waves of six more or less, and numbers 1 and 2 of the current batch have already left the house, one to a kind fellow Kossack even further north than me. A friend of mine took the other - it is her third one. She hangs them in her own home until its someone's birthday, then she gets another from me.
I hope to send several more rainbow generators out soon, as I too am getting a little desperate to keep the bills paid in my new (and first) home here in the bleak preternatural beauty of Northern Wisconsin. I moved here from Madison last winter to fill a job at a mom&pop type boat cover shop as I can operate a commercial sewing machine. The only person in all of Wisconsin who answered their Craigslist ad, able & willing to relocate to the northern scrub pine and cranberry bogs, after three days on the job they fired/banned me from returning. They claim I lied about being able to operate a commercial sewing machine (I have owned my own Consew for over a decade). I alleged discrimination with the State Equal Opportunity Commission Oh who am I kidding, this is Scott Walkers Wisconsin after all, and while Scooter has claimed to be able to create 250,000 jobs as governor, its all right to screw the queer with HIV. Who wants one of those around the workshop anyway? Especially way up north, in blood-red teabagger land.
Anyway to this day that position of sewing machine operator remains unfilled, while I have begun to establish myself as their one and only competitor in the area. A very fucked up situation, with me holding a new 30 year mortgage for a nice little house. I am so glad I picked up a snowblower a couple years ago.
Its a fine little home, just needs a woodstove (I had a gofundme page but that appears to have been deleted for getting no funding). Meanwhile my utility bills would cause me more concern if it weren't for the layers of anti-depressants. I am told they cannot cut off utilities during the winter; hope thats true. But the credit card wolves are howling for their cut, calling me asking what the hell happened to me and I repeat over and over "I was supposed to have a job!" I even had a Letter of Intent from the "manager" intended to show home loan officers I would have the ability to make payments.
A perjurous thing: The bit about doing work for them in the past is complete bullshit. I just understood it to prove how desperate the shop was to get a new sewing machine operator. I spent about $1500 to make the move and now there are a couple credit cards that are pulling me deeper and deeper into an abyss. I had one call this morning: "Where are the monies???" Hell, I am still paying off last winters fuel & electric bills.
So in the end, a story that is hardly unheard of: another faceless soul, one of billions, drowning in the untenable vicissitudes of a world gone crazy. Its just that I'm getting too old to load up the van and hit the road anymore. I could probably do well selling these mobiles in the parking lots of Dead Shows. Wish I'd thought of it sooner, which goes to show I should have spent more time in bars as a youth. Right? But in these times of no money I've got one thing going for me
And now, another Rainbow thing. Can you pick me out?
