Like most people who have ever ordered anything over the Internet, my e-mail inbox overflows every day with holiday advertising, many of which tout their "holiday gift guides."
Like most people I delete most of these e-mails without much more than a glance in the preview screen.
But the other day, I received an e-mail with a a very unusual teaser image, especially when it's combined with the copy.
"Holiday gift ideas for everyone in your family."
I am neither sure which holiday they have in mind nor what kind of family they think I have. I am absolutely positive that neither my wife nor any of my children or grandchildren have ever asked for tactical knee pads, BDUs or a shotgun for Christmas. Gloves, yes, but of a different variety.
I am not going to reveal the name of the company; they really do have some products that would make very nice gifts, including some non-tactical clothing. And, truth be told, I am a customer, though not for anything shown in the picture.
But I certainly hope that someone in the company's management calls the Internet promotions department on the carpet and asks why anyone thought this would be an enticing ad for customers looking for something for their loved ones.
