Since the release of the Senate report on the CIA torture program last week, it seems everyone has chimed in with an opinion. Out of the 6000+ page classified report, a 525 summary has Americans clashing over whether it was right to use Enhanced Torture Interrogation techniques, or just plain wrong.
(Summary CIA Torture Report) http://www.cnn.com/....
At any rate, it's our God given right to have an opinion. And living in the USA, gives us the right to say it out loud as well as post it to social media, right?
Of all the people who actually have an opinion on the subject of torture, it is that of Senator John McCain's that I favor the most. I can just imagine how he still relives the torture he endured as a P.O.W. There's no better expert than someone who has 'been there, done that.' McCain has said a person being tortured will say anything that he thinks the captor's want to hear, just to make the pain stop. Now doesn't that make perfect sense? But have you noticed how Fox avoids even talking much about McCain?
America defined our methods of using torture:
Torture in all forms is banned by the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which the United States participated in drafting. The United States is a party to the following conventions (international treaties) that prohibit torture: the American Convention on Human Rights (signed 1977) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (signed 1977; ratified 1992).
After 9/11, our government went into panic mode, implementing torture techniques that were barbaric, at least for a first world country to use. Let’s not forget our leaders of that trying time repeatedly reassuring us, WE DO NOT TORTURE. Interrogators did terrible things to many men who were rounded up in the Middle East like cattle. I'm not a "terrorist sympathizer," but I have to note that many of the detainees were innocent and were released. The information is in the FOIA. http://en.wikipedia.org/....
I, like millions of people around the world, use social media to express my opinions. Not all of them, but when I'm in the mood. I also use Twitter where I follow an interesting and diverse mix of organizations, news outlets and individuals. Plus, I like to consider myself an independent fact checker, sometimes passing along a good tip ;-).
I started following a show on Fox called Cashinin. I thought it was a financial type show, which I like because of my background and prior career. I found it has nothing to do with the economy or the financial world. It's a "vanity show" that Eric Bolling hosts on Fox News. It's a half hour show where he gets to drive home his right wing opinion on any subject he's in the mood for. He’s arrogant and has to always be right, to the point he will twist the news or just out and out lie about it. He even has a segment to demean Democrats, called, “Fool of the week.” However, I forgot to "unfollow it," so when on Twitter I happened to see Bolling pose the question:
https://twitter.com/...
Bolling: Anyone "sympathize" with Terrorists?.. Here you go: http://insider.foxnews.com/...
I couldn't help but reply to such a silly question because I don't think any good American sympathizes with terrorists. Do you know of anyone? Well, here's how the rest of the short conversation went:
@BelleDesigns4u Dec 13
@ericbolling No one has sympathy 4 terrorists. But we don't need ETI! ► Do Republicans Want to Bring Torture Back?: http://prospect.org/.... …
Some guy tweets back to Bolling and myself with some gruesome pictures of beheadings. To which I reply ...
@BelleDesigns4u Dec 14
@BA** @ericbolling This is why the USA has had a strict policy about torture. We are NOT like the terrorists. Ur comparison is SICK!
@ericbolling Dec 14
@BelleDesigns4u @BA** you and your moronic liberal friends lack of understanding of terror and terrorists..sickens many.. including me.
Okay, did you get that? Those of us who disagree with the USA using EIT are all moronic liberals (does that include President Obama?) who do not understand terror and terrorists ...and we make a Fox host sick.
That's how judgmental and irrational the right wing extremist hosts at Fox are. Let’s face it. They exist to bash our POTUS and Democrats who they always refer to as “lib burr alls.”
Mother Jones nailed Fox on the way they handled the release of the Terror Report:
"This Is the Predictably Awful Way Fox News Reacted to the CIA Torture Report"
http://www.motherjones.com/....
But best of all, I think this Doonsbury comic strip sums up Fox and their hyped up, over-dramatized and over reaction to everything.
