They're about to give them self-correcting trajectories.
Bad shot? -- No problem! DARPA Tech will soon come to the rescue, and self-correct for those built-in "human weaknesses" of yours ...
Guided bullets may be coming
news.investors.com -- Dec 15, 2014
Guided bullets may be coming to the U.S. military. The .50-caliber bullets, which can change course after being fired, have apparently shown increasing accuracy in 2 tests conducted this year and broadcast online by DARPA [Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency], which is backing the project. The initiative is called EXACTO (Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance), and the gov't has said nothing about how it works.
So a .50-caliber bullet --
is that a lot?
"A .50 caliber is a half inch" in diameter ... Ummh, let me get behind that tree first, please.
DARPA Testing Bullets for Snipers That Change Direction After Being Fired
by John Nassivera, hngn.com -- Dec 15, 2014
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is looking to equip the U.S. military with bullets that can change direction after they have been fired.
The advanced .50-caliber bullets are being tested by California-based Teledyne Scientific Imaging, LLC under the Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordinance (EXACTO) program, according to Stars and Stripes. The Defense Department is yet to reveal exactly how these bullets are able to change direction in midair.

I feel safe ... well not really.
Homing-device bullets,
are down-right creepy.
Puts a whole new spin on the movie plot-lines, of "trying to hit a moving target" ...
Or having "a bullet with your name on it" ...
In the race for ever-better tech, when do they ever get around to stuff that can actually HELP people?
Probably not soon enough ...

“The objective of the EXACTO program is to revolutionize rifle accuracy and range by developing the first ever guided small-caliber bullet,” DARPA officials said in a July statement accompanying the video. “The EXACTO .50-caliber round and optical sighting technology expects to greatly extend the day and nighttime range over current state-of-the-art sniper systems.”
The specially designed ammunition can change direction in midair.

I really want to know, WHO dreams this stuff up ... and how much they got in exchange for their soul ...
I wonder how long before the self-correction tech, makes it into "a police arsenal" near you?
Probably not long enough ...
