I-1329 30-Word Concise Description
This measure would urge Washington’s Congressional delegation to propose amending the Constitution to clarify that Constitutional rights apply to natural persons not corporations and to authorize greater regulation of political contributions and expenditures.
On January 29, the Washington Secretary of State gave
WAmend the green light to begin collecting the 300,000 signatures required to get Initiative 1329 on the November 2014 statewide ballot. The deadline for submitting signatures is Wednesday, June 25, 2014.
This is part of the national CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE, MONEY IS NOT SPEECH movement. The thrust of this movement is that "A corporation is not a person and can be regulated" and "Money is not speech and can be regulated". This flies right in the face of the SCOTUS Fascist Five, the Citizens United decision engineered by James Bopp and the Ayn Rand dictum that R&R, regulation as well as revenue, are bad.
Unfortunately, rumor has it that only 60,000 of the required 300,000 Washington State signatures have been gathered.
