Dear Senator Warren,
I am writing to ask you to run for the presidency of the United States.
I can think of many reasons for you to be reluctant; it’s a lousy job, you’ve got a life to live, you’re a team player and the team already has a starting quarterback. I get that.
Our times are trying. As a nation, we are losing our competitive edge through income stratification and its consequences, like education. The fabulous infrastructure left us by our parents and grandparents is crumbling. Climate change threatens our existence as a species and needs to be addressed immediately.
Trying times bring out the best in our best. Think Lincoln. Think Roosevelt.
Think Warren.
We don’t have time for niceties. You’re 64 and our planet is burning up. Our starting quarterback is tired and playing by rote. Ask yourself, when was the last time Hillary Clinton said something courageous, something memorable?
I’ll close by paraphrasing you:
You became a Senator—good for you! But I want to be clear.
• You got your education from schools the rest of us paid for.
• You got a job at a premier university the rest of us paid to support.
• Your campaign for the senate was paid for and you were elected by those of us with a vision for a fairer and more just America.
• You don’t have to worry about your arguments being lost or discounted or misunderstood, your supporters work tirelessly to promote and defend you and your ideals across the internet and Facebook and Twitter.
Now look, you got elected to the senate and it turned into something terrific. God bless.
But part of the underlying contract with your supporters is that you pay your ideals forward for the next generation that comes along.
And that means fighting for those ideals in the most effective way possible; not as one voice of a hundred. But as one voice. As president.
Senator Warren, run for the presidency. Our country needs you. Our planet needs you.
Best regards,
