Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)
Until last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee had a subcommittee on "the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights." Now, it just has a Subcommittee on the Constitution. Because screw civil rights and human rights. Republicans claim their logic is that the Constitution totally covers all that other stuff, so there's no need to mention it. But:
In his press release, [subcommittee head John] Cornyn never used the phrase “civil rights” or “human rights.” Instead, the release said he would be a "watchdog against unconstitutional overreach and will hold the Obama Administration accountable for its actions." Cornyn is an opponent of legislation that would restore federal oversight over some local and state election changes that were eliminated when the Supreme Court gutted a key provision of the Voting Rights Act in 2013.
I guess taking civil rights and human rights out of the name was truth in advertising. If they wanted to go all the way to the truth, though, sounds like the name would need to be something more like Subcommittee on Saying the Word "Constitution" Constantly to Justify Attacks on the President.
