Time to get down to business here and plan a meet-up!
Let's see if we can piggy-back on the Michigan Democratic Party statewide convention, to be held all day Saturday 2/14 at Cobo Center. Rather than fight the hockey crowd near Cobo afterwards, how about heading over to Corktown or Mexicantown for some dinner?
If you're not going to the MDP event, no worries. We'll still be delighted to see you.
You'll see in the poll below three options. But I'll name them here, with links, so you can check them out. The Yelp ratings are useful but not determinative, IMO.
Mercury Burger and Bar, 2163 Michigan Avenue (right by the Michigan Central Station).
Burgers, milkshakes (spiked, if you want), and full bar. Mixed ratings; often critiqued for service. No reservations.
Ottava Via, 1400 Michigan Avenue.
Italian, including pizza, full bar. Very highly rated. Reservations possible.
Taqueria Mi Pueblo, 7278 Dix.
Mexican, full bar. Very highly rated. Inexpensive. Reservations possible.
In an earlier diary, mideedah noted that the Bucharest Grill has a branch in this area of town. They're good, but they're rated as not suitable for groups. The same issue eliminates Mudgie's Deli, which I would love to try.
All right, you know what to do. Vote in the poll, and if you say Other then you do need to come up with a good argument for your choice, too. ;)
As for that MDP convention: I'd love to have someone write a diary for next Wednesday about it all. Please let me know if you're willing and able.
PS--Don't forget to join us this evening starting at 7:45 for the next installment of the Motor City Kossacks-hosted Book Club. We're discussing Thomas Sugrue's important history of Detroit, The Origins of the Urban Crisis. The first diary of the series is here. You gotta admit, you have to love a diarist who notes the difference between working at Ford's versus for Ford. ;) I hope to see you there.
