A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What Did You Have for Dinner Last Night ?
Fast food here, specifically, an Italian Beef with hot peppers and some fries, from Luke's. It's usually fast food at our house on Mondays, has been for the last year, because I'm in here at the computer clickety-clacking away every Monday afternoon. No time to cook, or even sit down at the table. Yes, my friends, it's been a year now since I began writing these little pieces for CUA. It was called * NEW DAY * when I started on February 4, 2014. My first one was about fishing. This series was part of my morning routine before I took the Tuesday spot. I am a creature of habit and my mornings all start more or less the same way. I get up, plug in the coffee pot and bring in the morning paper. Then I fire up the computer. My browser is set to bring up the New York Times first, so I start with a scan of their front-page. That will tell me what the rest of the MSM will be about that day, what sort of propaganda the corporate press will be catapulting. Then I look at Alternet, the Links section at nakedcapitalism, which I highly recommend, and Daily Kos, front-page first then the recent list. That's how I stumbled onto * NEW DAY *. I enjoy Meet-Ups, so I started checking out the other groups, commenting in the thread and next thing you know navajo asks me to take a day. I did and have never regretted it.
I usually finalize my topic on Friday and let it rattle around in my head over the weekend, hoping some sentences will suggest themselves. Only once have I had a Monday night panic when I couldn't think of a topic, but I eventually excreted something that was more or less acceptable. Sometimes the date of the post dictates the subject, like the first Tuesday in November of an even-numbered year, but I don't feel constrained by that. I see that Cinco de Mayonesa falls on a Tuesday this year, please forgive me if I don't write about that. The ones I've had the most fun with have been about food and music. I did one on Mexican music and who can ever forget my diary on Mexican food. Speaking of tacos, aren't you glad I brought these guys into your life ?
I did one about Route 66, that was fun, and one on Kimchi. That last one would have been better had my Kimchi not turned out brown instead of red. That was because of an error in the cookbook I was using. The recipe called for 2 T. fish sauce. I should have been 2 t. That means I put in 3 times as much as I should have, you'd think a cookbook editor would have caught that. I did one on the Google Glass. It looks like the tech wizards at Google have put that project on hold1, thank God, but not before a user was treated for addiction to the damned thing2. I once asked if you wanted to change your username. I'm always thinking of those, right now I like sideboob, Whackaloon and Itsallaboutme. Just last week I did drones, which are now showing up in Afghan rugs3. It's been an interesting year for me.
I hope I've been able to amuse y'all, maybe inform you, show you something you hadn't known about before, but that's not the main thing. For me, it's about the Meet-Ups. I wasn't on this site too long at all before a few of us in Tucson sniffed each other out in the comment threads and began meeting up. We'll be having our annual Baja Arizona Kossacks Picnic in a month our so, this one will be our fifth. I hope the Connect! Unite! Act! series is inspiring people to form local groups and to meet fellow readers of the Daily Kos. If you haven't done it yet, it really is pretty cool. You'll meet people who share an interest in politics and who are, generally, on the same side of the issues. You'll find that you have a lot in common and instant conversation starters: who's your favorite Kossack, who's your least favorite Kossack and did you see what so-and-so said ? It's good fun, good conversation and, who knows, it may lead to real political change someday. So that's it for another Tuesday, don't forget to answer the poll and ...
What'd you have for dinner last night ?

DKos Asheville's Roadtrip and Two-Day Retreat to Roanoke, Virginia
From randallt:
After seven successful and engaging meet ups, DKos Asheville's core members decided to take our next gathering on the road. The first reason was that our chef and benefactor for all our meet ups has been Gordon20024 and we wanted say thanks by traveling to be with him instead of having him drive to be with us. We asked and he was thrilled and so the idea was born. Another reason is that it offers us the opportunity to meet more Kossacks from around the region including Virginia and parts of North Carolina to the north and east of us.
Grow our network, grow our community, help win elections.
