I've received a few messages of concern, because I last posted on January 27, the anniversary of my wife's being diagnosed with cancer. Given how often I used to post, some people were worried that something might have happened to me.
So let me set minds at ease, if they were worried, and annoy those who hoped they might finally be rid of me.
I swapped classes/ preps for one period (out of six that I teach) with another member of my department. We have both had to spend time learning our new curriculum and getting to know our kids. That is time consuming.
In Maryland teachers are evaluated according to students assessment, something required because former Gov. O'Malley took race to the top money. That cycle of assessment must be completed by the end of the month, so there are things that we must do to prepare our students.
It has been a very busy time for my wife, and I have had both to assist her, and pick up her part of shared responsibilities.
And I have decided to test waters for possible employment that might not require a 45 mile commute each way. That has taken time and energy, as this is a key part of the recruiting cycle in the hiring of school teachers.
Don't worry (unless you really dislike what I write here) - when I have something of value to offer I will not hesitate to post diaries.
In the meantime, get to know some of the diarists whose work you do not yet know. There is some real quality out there.
Peace.
