According to CNN:
The Justice Department is preparing to bring a lawsuit against the Ferguson, Missouri, police department over a pattern of racially discriminatory tactics used by officers, if the police department does not agree to make changes on its own, sources tell CNN.
Attorney General Eric Holder said this week he expects to announce the results of the department's investigation of the shooting death of Michael Brown and a broader probe of the Ferguson Police Department before he leaves office in the coming weeks.
With deep evidence mounting that Ferguson and surrounding police departments in Missouri
profit from poverty, resulting in
lawsuits from local citizens being filed for discrimination, it makes sense that the DOJ would proceed with strict guidelines for the Ferguson Police Department.
Before Ferguson teenager Mike Brown was killed on August 9, five other officers already had lawsuits filed against them for various forms of brutality and discrimination. While most people are doubtful that any federal charges will be filed against former officer Darren Wilson, it would be a grave disappointment if the DOJ did nothing official about the blatant discrimination that has been clearly documented over the past six months—including poor hiring practices of African-American officers in a town that is predominantly black but hardly represented in the police force.
