In addition to Mike Coblenz’ partial list of how conservatives tend to feel about America, here are some of the things Republicans actually do to show their love for America:
In an admitted effort to regain power they shamelessly pledge to block any and all progress during the worst economic times since the Great Depression.
They shamelessly attempt to stifle voter participation when doing so increases their chances of gaining more power.
With no shame, they ignore science about our ailing planet in order to placate the corporate benefactors who keep them in power.
Because they insist on preserving every ounce of their economic advantages, they shamelessly repeat a trickle-down economics mantra that history has consistently proven false; meanwhile they scornfully accuse others of wanting to “redistribute the wealth,” after reaping the benefits of decades of redistribution in their favor through changes to the tax code and regulations.
Without shame, they plead ignorance to well-documented facts about our president (Was he born in this country? Is he a Muslim?) when they think doing so will help mobilize the most paranoid, hateful, and ignorant people in society.
Hoping to preserve their own power, they are willing to sacrifice the health of millions of Americans by shamelessly insisting that a largely conservative, corporate, partial solution to the health-insurance problem in America is a government takeover of the healthcare system.
Hoping to win an election, they shamelessly nominate an unvetted belligerent narcissist to be one heartbeat away from the most powerful position in the world.
They shamelessly claim to love our military more than Democrats do, while they actually do everything they can to ensure our veterans suffer poverty, mental health problems, and limited access to healthcare.
Couching themselves as the protectors of fiscal responsibility, they shamelessly waste billions of tax payers’ hard-earned dollars by repeatedly shutting down the government and threatening the country’s credit rating.
They shamelessly label people who are unfortunate enough to need a helping hand as lazy losers – preferring to help the corporate benefactors who will keep them in power.
They shamelessly base their righteous opinions on whether to engage in wars – wars that kill and maim countless innocents – not on coherent strategies or philosophies, but on how their stances might shape American politics.
With no shame, they do everything they can to limit minor corrections to our financial regulations after a lack of such regulations led to this country’s most dire economic state since the Great Depression.
With no shame, they are willing to allow this country’s infrastructure to fall apart, saying we can’t afford to spend anything – after they themselves drove the country into deep debt and deficits.
With no shame, they undermine all efforts to reduce gun violence, piously wrapping their opposition to any and all regulations in the Constitution. The daily deaths of innocents are less important to them than placating their NRA benefactors (not to mention their voters who like to play with guns the same way they like to play with trucks and jet skis).
For strictly political gains, their governors and state legislators shamelessly refuse to accept significant assistance (in the form of Medicaid expansion) in providing their poorest citizens with healthcare.
After kneecapping their political opposition at every opportunity (namely, a president who took every opportunity to treat them as good-faith adversaries), they shamelessly proclaim that it is the president who is responsible for the current dysfunctional political climate.
Some people are so incapable of empathy that they shamelessly believe their job in life is simply to amass as much power and wealth as they possibly can. But it’s one thing to merely be one of the more obnoxious segments of humanity (see Donald Trump); it’s quite another to actually assume positions of privilege and responsibility for the sole purpose of furthering one’s personal sociopathologies.
For all the decent hardworking Americans who have been hurt by their actions, they should be called what they are: traitors.
