It seems that Netanyahu wants somebody to attack Iran - preferably us. I've not yet read the transcript of today's speech to the GOP, but that seems to be the salient point.
I do have a small point to make.
If we/somebody were to actually war on Iran, what does Netanyahu think would be the immediate result as far as world oil prices are concerned.
I've read that about 30% of all seaborne-traded oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. (http://www.eia.gov/...).
In the event of an attack, Iran could easily make the SoH impassible by threatening any tankers attempting passage. It wouldn't need to actually sink any - the threat alone would deter passage.
As with so many other Middle Eastern countries, Iran's hostility toward America is in direct proportion to the number of times we have f**ked with them. I suspect that, given the Iranian people's current absence of hostility towards us, if we quit poking the bear, it will quit reacting.
I hope Iran does not end up building nukes. (If they want one, it seems vastly more cost-effective for them to buy one from the former Soviet Union.)
But to bomb them now would, I fear, have consequences noone can forsee.
