This is why I will miss California Senator Barbara Boxer when she leaves the Senate at the end of her term in 2016.
As a member of the United States Senate, during the age of Obama, her ability to call out the Republican Party’s destructive rebellion and assault upon the nation, due to their continuing temper tantrum and protest at the election of Barack Obama has been second to none.
Here is the great Senator effectively excoriating the Republican Party for their efforts to stop President Obama’s attempt to address the nation’s languishing immigration issue in February:
And here's the deal - I've never heard of a Republican (and I will stand corrected if any Republican corrects me) I've never heard of a Republican complaining when President Eisenhower used his executive order power to help immigrants, when President Nixon did the same thing to protect immigrants, when President Ronald Reagan, their hero, protected immigrants, when George Bush Sr. protected immigrants, when George W. protected immigrants, they all used their authority.
Show me one Republican that stood up and said, 'Oh, this is outrageous! Let's impeach the president!' But it's President Obama. And they're annoyed because he won twice. Sorry. Sorry. Wake up and smell the roses. He IS the President. And he is doing the right thing for America, because he loves America.
How does it make sense? Because you're too incompetent to hold a vote on your immigration plan? You want to kick people out of the country? Put it to a vote! Let's go. You want to deport 11 million people? Put it to a vote. Don't hide behind the Homeland Security Bill, holding the President's work hostage. You never did it to the other presidents.
Snip
Our national security is at stake, our family values are at stake. And our economy is at stake here. So get over the fact that you don't like the president. We get it. You couldn't beat him. Too bad for you. But you're in charge here, in the Senate. Do your job!
Don't hold it hostage due to your hatred of this president, and I use that word because that's what I think. That's what I think….
Now the Senator, who is a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is letting her voice be heard, once again, in response to the Republicans’ effort to sabotage the Iranian nuclear framework that was negotiated by the Obama administration and its international partners. And, in so doing, highlight the nature of participation of Democratic Senate colleagues, who are pledging to join in this sabotage, as reckless and irresponsible. In a letter to Republican Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker, Boxer wrote:
To force Congress to weigh in now on the Iran nuclear talks before a final deal has been completed would be a reckless rush to judgment. It would undermine negotiations at a critical moment and could derail a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to deal with this looming threat.
She continued by saying:
The Committee has the right and obligation to hold hearings and debate the framework, but it would simply be irresponsible to vote on legislation before we have seen the final terms of a deal.
The good Senator understands one important thing, even if Iran were able to deliver the keys to the entirety of its nuclear program, now and for the next 100 years, and have them delivered to the Congress on the wings of celestial white doves, the Republicans would reject its effort, as long as Barack Obama was involved.
I thank her and appreciate her, for, yet again, raising her voice in concern.
