Hi everyone. Long time lurker here. I've never really felt compelled to write about something until now. And it's an ask, which makes me feel bad, but because DKos is so far-reaching, I couldn't pass this opportunity by because there is only one more day to vote.
So, what's this about? It's about War Ink (warink.org), the brainchild of my very good friend and public librarian (as am I). I am interested in helping this project win a Webby for two reasons: it's an incredibly innovative way to support veterans (It even motivated the armed forces to reexamine their policies on tattoos: http://bit.ly/....), and the exposure will help change the way people think about public libraries.
What do people say when I tell them I'm a librarian? They say "You get paid to read?" and "You shush people all day?" No and no. Public libraries are no longer your mothers' public libraries. I could actually write a different diary on how vibrant my profession is; how public libraries are consistently expanding the boundaries of what a "library" means. But that's not why I'm here. I'm here to support War Ink.
Never heard of War Ink? Here's a fantastic introduction to it: http://www.warink.org/... (warning, you may cry).
Still with me? Here's how to vote (Yes, you have to register, but it only takes a sec.)
1. Go here to register
2. Then go here and vote for War Ink
Thank you so much for reading. Now, go check out a book from your public library (after you vote, of course). eBook reader? Your local library most likely has them available to download from their website - you don't even have to go in!
