Republicans really do want to
relive the 1990s, don't they?
On “The Sam Malone Show” this week, Rep. Ted Poe, R-Tex., said that Congress will launch an investigation into Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation based on the findings of the book “Clinton Cash,” in which right-wing activist Peter Schweizer suggests that the former secretary of state used her role in the State Department to benefit foundation donors.
According to Poe, "you could hire a whole department just to investigate the Clintons." Which we know, because it's been done before. Everyone over 25 or 30 has at least some memory of those years of investigations spiraling out of control, leaping from one allegation to another without it ever being clear that any of them are relevant to anything outside the Clintons' marriage. Republicans aren't banking on finding anything, they're banking on creating a sense of scandal even if there's no reality, and on making voters so weary of the nonstop allegations and investigations that they turn against Hillary Clinton just to avoid living through it all again.
As Karoli puts it, "First they lie, then they 'investigate' the lies, then when no one is looking they admit that 'oops, yes, we lied.'"
