Each VP nominee in recent history deployed by the GOP has been an attack-dog(sic) and that is a relatively standard role, only this time and although Fiorina may have already been derailed early she will be punching upward in ways more anachronistic than in 2008 which will reflect badly on whomever the GOP chooses to oppose Clinton.
Fiorina will be subject to much of the ostensibly sexist criticism raised against Geraldine Ferraro where even with the added attributes of corporate or health toughness, she might not pass the same kinds of questions presented to the last female GOP VP candidate.

Presidential elections are usually about the standard bearer but in this case it may be the only gender-political "Hail-Mary" the GOP has in the campaign of HRC's inevitability as the general election nominee and perhaps the winner against an unusually large bunch of GOP demagogues, hacks, and morons (one example below).
That Fiorina, 60, is running as the anti-Hillary is not in doubt. Her announcement video opens with her abruptly switching off Clinton's video, as if she's had enough. Then Fiorina looks into the camera and declares: "Our founders never intended us to have a professional political class" — a line that both disses Clinton's political credentials and makes a virtue of her own lack of them. Fiorina has also been quite explicit that by picking her as the nominee, the GOP could neutralize Clinton's "war on women baloney" and focus the election on accomplishments and ideas, which aren't Clinton's strong suits.
If Fiorina, who lost the 2010 California Senate race to Barbara Boxer, were simply running as an anti-Hillary attack dog, she wouldn't be very interesting. But her candidacy is much more than that. Fiorina is using Clinton's dogmatic progressivism to set up a contrast with her positions that seem to strive for a higher left-right synthesis.
Fiorina is viewed by many as the Republican party’s best answer to Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner among Democrats.Fiorina is already assuming the role of Clinton attack dog and in numerous public appearances has gone after the former secretary of state’s family non-profit, the Clinton Foundation, and its dealings with foreign governments.
“Every policy position that Hillary Clinton has staked out so far will help her in a general election, as well as advance her campaign for the nomination,” said Geoff Garin, a Democratic pollster who worked on Mrs. Clinton’s 2008 campaign. “On a personal level, the fact that she is showing her passion on these issues matters, because voters of all stripes respect candidates who speak out for their beliefs.”
On immigration and same-sex marriage, in particular, the national picture has changed. About six in 10 Americans said they support President Obama’s executive action on immigration, according to a recent poll by The Associated Press. Almost an equal number in a New York Times/CBS News survey this week supported same-sex marriage.
