Nike is pledging to create 10,000 US Jobs (in 10 years) -- jobs in "manufacturing and engineering" -- if only we get rid of the unbearable burden of 10% Tariffs on Footwear imports -- that the TPP may or may not do ... (Who Knows? Did Nike have its Corporate Lawyers, at the TPP Table -- insuring an unhindered supply of Vietnamese Labor, with a minimum wage of 0.56 cents an hour?)

"I know a lot of folks are skeptical about trade," Obama acknowledged. "Past trade deals didn't always live up to the hype. Labor and environmental protections weren't always strong enough."
He said this agreement is in America's best interest. "Just do it," Obama said, echoing Nike's slogan.

Labor unions are skeptical of such talk.
"We have heard similar promises from companies before, and very few have panned out," AFL-CIO spokesman Eric Hauser said in a statement. Past trade agreements, he said, "have taught us that corporate-driven trade policy too often accelerates a global race to the bottom."

Critics see Nike as a leading example of an American-based global giant built around low-wage labor in places such as Vietnam, one of the 12 countries negotiating the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP.
Mr. Obama, in relaxed remarks at the company’s Oregon headquarters, said binding environmental and labor rules in the deal will improve conditions in Vietnam and also avoid incentivizing further outsourcing from the U.S. He said increased trade is important in a world shaped by globalization, while avoiding new deals in the Pacific risks ceding further economic power to China, which isn’t a part of the talks. “We can’t stand on the beaches and stop the global economy at our shores,” Mr. Obama said.
Nike Inc. Chief Executive Mark Parker praised the trade agreement, which could boost the company’s financials by lowering U.S. tariffs on athletic shoes made in Vietnam. The company said the trade deal could help it create thousands more jobs in the U.S. over the next decade.

Question:
You mean Vietnamese Workers, can't even buy the shoes they make, in Vietnam? Not even the "rejects" -- because of too high (10%) "U.S. tariffs on athletic shoes made in Vietnam"?
That doesn't even make economic sense. Why would they have to "import" Nike shoes, when they are already there? In the bin over-there at the end of the line.
Question: Could that "boost [in] the company’s financials" have anything to do with formalizing and standardizing your Peasant Labor force, into a permanent "Fixed Cost" in your profit margins equations?
When Australia and Japan starts buying up those discounted Tariff-free US-Imported footwear -- be sure to give the your Peasant Labor a free Duck or two, in appreciation for all their "Fast Tracked Labors" ...
Can you Just Do That Nike -- your know in the spirit of Humanity -- now that were going to be all "Flat World" and stuff? Can you just work-in some Christmas Bonuses, into your International Trade Balance sheets, too?

NIKE, can you "Just Do It"? It's not like you wouldn't have the International windfall, to show some gratitude to your workers ... and your customers.
... But as Union spokesman Eric Hauser said: We should 'be skeptical of such talk.'
You know, considering how "greedy" Corporate-persons can get. Flat World, or not.
