Jeb Bush says Hillary Clinton
would have authorized the Iraq invasion, same as him. That wouldn't be a controversial statement, since Hillary Clinton did vote to authorize the invasion, except that Bush said it in response to a question about what he would have done "knowing what we know now." And Clinton has made it pretty clear that, knowing what we know now, she would have done things differently.
But leave it to Politifact to screw up something that basic in a fact-check of Bush's statements. Politifact's conclusion about the Clinton part of Bush's Iraq fumbling is that:
Bush can’t know what Clinton would have done if she had known that the intelligence was faulty. Here is what we do know: In 2002, Clinton supported the Iraq resolution, but by 2006 she said she regretted it.
In other words, what we do know is that Clinton has said repeatedly and in no uncertain terms that if she had known what we know now, her vote would have been different. Politifact even quotes her to that effect in this very piece!
"Obviously, if we knew then what we know now, there wouldn't have been a vote, and I certainly wouldn't have voted for it."
But, you know, "Bush can't know what Clinton would have done if she had known that the intelligence was faulty." According to Politifact, experts in whatever makes them sound like they're not being too hard on Republican lies.
