I've been a member of dKos since 2003, rarely diary anymore but like seeing what this great community has evolved into...
Today I saw a few tweets about Colin Powell's "inspiring speech" before the American College of Radiology. (I'm in health care and follow a lot of health care people.)
I don't know about you, but when I hear Powell's name and see the word speech, the only one that matters is the one before the UN when he held up that vial of anthrax and showed the Powerpoint of trumped up, false WMD claims.
Seeing him out there raking in the appearance fee money makes me ill. How much does he earn per speech?
So, I did what any good gadfly would do and tweeted to the authors of the posts with things like:
@KristinaHoque Keynote address by General Powell: quite possibly the most inspirational speaker I have ever had the honor of hearing. #ACR2015
@GeroAmericano - @KristinaHoque so he held up vial w/ suspected anthrax +
powerpoint on nonexistant WMD? http://m.huffpost.com/... …
hope #ACR2015 got $ worth
and...
@Jim_Rawson_MD
Jim Rawson MD retweeted Joe Sullivan
Great picture of two great leaders @CheriCanon & Colin Powell #ACR2015
yeah @Jim_Rawson_MD "great leader" Powell made 244 false statements about
WMD and 10 about Al Qaeda links
http://www.publicintegrity.org/...
statements … #ACR2015
Most of the places he appears I'm sure are not exactly full of live tweeting participants, so the conference hashtags could easily be influenced by some intentional truth telling. If anyone is interested in playing along, give it a try at #ACR2015.
And post diaries like this one alerting the community to other times when Powell appears in front of fawning admirers.
With any luck, conference organizers will get told by their social media teams about the perils of booking Powell in the future.
