What is stunning to me is the success the GOP has after five years of control of the House, and now the Senate, with their lack of any serious solutions to a myriad of issues that exist today. In fact, for most important policy issues their solutions amount to a series of short sound bite phrases, which I list below. These sound bites certainly don't solve anything and essentially act to preserve the status quo. When your party essentially believes government can't work, why bother promoting any serious solutions?
So I understand that 25% of the country are RWNJ's living in la-la land, but I don't get the inability of the rest of the American public to recognize the lack of coherent policy initiatives and send them packing for their years of obstruction or any policy solution that is not a tax cut!
Here's a list of some serious challenges and the typical shorthand responses of the GOP to these issues:
Health insurance- "Get a better job"
Infrastructure- "We're broke" or "It's pork"
Income Inequality- "Class warfare"
Climate change- "Not happening" or "Not man made"
Debt- "Sequestration"
Domestic spending- "We're broke"
Social Security- "Privatize"
Taxes- "Do away with the IRS"
Race issues- "Whites get raw deal"
Feel free to add others or your thoughts. My favorite these days is taxes. From the party that thinks the country is broke, they wish to do away with the agency designed to collect revenues. Did I mention, stunningly simplistic!
