Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D. CT):
The last thing we should do is allow an angry domestic abuser to buy a gun.
In May 2014, Lori Jackson’s husband shot and killed her. She had already been granted a temporary restraining order against him, but due to a loophole in federal law domestic abusers like her husband can possess and even buy guns despite a judge having issued a temporary restraining order. That loophole left Lori unprotected at the worst possible moment. Lori lost her life, and her two young children lost their mother.
We can do more to protect victims like Lori – and it has to start by keeping guns out of the hands of violent abusers who are under temporary restraining orders. Will you join me today to speak out and spread the word?
