Listening to the Majority Report with Sam Seder, Sam asked if someone could create some graphics which link candidates with their donors, so I figured that could be the next series I do. Today is Hillary Clinton and Alice Walton.
Hillary Clinton and her donor Alice Walton
I lived in Cleburne TX for 5 years. It was a great little town, which today has been fracked into an earthquake zone that constantly explodes. That breaks my heart. When I lived there, I went to a church where there was a retired preacher named Brother Mac. He was a corny old man who told corny jokes. He was born around the turn of the century, if memory serves, and was quite a character.
Brother Mac's father ran a Five and Dime store in Oklahoma which was put out of business by Sam Walton (Or maybe it was Sam Walton's father, I'm not sure and I can't look this story up.), and I remember when he brought that up, that was the only time he wasn't a smiling jokester. All these years later, he was angry at Walmart and the Walton family. When I was in high school, I didn't get it. Although Brother Mac passed away years ago, I know he would be proud of me for using my art to take a Walton down a peg.
Alice Walton is part of the Walton dynasty, a family which is as wealthy as the entire bottom 40% of the United States. She is also one of Hillary Clinton's big donors.
The United States, as a Princeton Study shows, is an oligarchy. Monied interests are the ones who get their way, so the best way to understand a candidate, is look into what the donor believes in.
Alice Walton, a spoiled brat raised by Sam Walton doesn't believe in paying her fair share.
I found this tale in an article from Socialist Worker from about a decade ago. Alice Walton seems to want to build a world class art center in Arkansas, which I am down with. As an artist, I spend lots of times visiting shows and galleries. However, it's obvious that she does it as a tax shield.
I don't want to ascribe Bill Clinton's beliefs to Hillary, however, I've been concerned that as President, Bill Clinton did sign the law that broke the economy. (The same bill that when I heard Bernie Sanders stand up against, I swore I would support him if he ran for President. Bernie 2016!) As Senator, Hillary voted for the bankruptcy bill that Elizabeth Warren had her stand up against in the 90s. Hillary has been doing a good job on voting rights, and I commend her on her speech in Texas last week and her lawsuits. But she is a "New Democrat." She was a part of both the Clinton and Obama administrations who ran as populists and governed as Republicans. Based on that and her record, Hillary is my favorite Republican.
I just wish she wasn't running as a Democrat.
