I'm a straight, older, science-loving liberal Christian across the universe from the evangelical movement. So, forgive me if I give that over the glasses look to someone that's starting to actually live the light versus just seeing it.
I could say many things. Really, I could.
Rather, I will leave it up to you.
Just in the past few days, Tony Campolo announced his support for same-sex couples’ inclusion in the church, while Franklin Graham announced that he would pull Billy Graham Evangelistic Association accounts from LGBT-friendly Wells Fargo bank. On top of that, retired editor of Christianity Today David Neff announced his support for gay marriage. source
“This issue will eventually break relationships: personally, congregationally and institutionally,” said Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, who called today a “crucial moment.” “There’s not going to be any way around it.” source ibid
The evangelical leader [Campolo] and author of Red Letter Revolution is known for his tenaciousness and use of hyperbole to make serious points about injustice. According to a 2003 “Christianity Today” profile, Campolo would often begin speeches by saying, “I have three things I’d like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don’t give a sh-t. What’s worse is that you’re more upset with the fact that I said ‘sh-t’ than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night.” source parens mine
A liberal in this pie slice of the Christian church, he and his wife JUST got off the dime and spoke out. That will not go well.
Trust me... poo will hit the fan any time now. Good. Way past time.
