Before you get too worked up about this, note that Rupert Murdoch is stepping down as CEO but will be staying on as executive chairman in order to
keep an eye on things.
Rupert Murdoch, the 84-year-old chief executive officer and controlling shareholder of 21st Century Fox, is preparing to step down as CEO of the media giant and hand that title to his son James, according to numerous sources close to the Murdoch family.
21st Century Fox is, of course, the parent company of all things unholy. By which we mean America's foremost propaganda channel, Fox News.
But James Murdoch? Now where have we heard that name before? Oh, right.
James Murdoch has resigned from his role as chairman of UK broadcaster BSkyB, but will remain on the board.
The move is part of an effort to distance that company from the phone-hacking scandal at the News of the World newspaper, once a Murdoch title. [...]
News International shut down the News of the World last July due to a storm of allegations of widespread wrongdoing, including the hacking of the phone of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler.
Murdoch the younger was himself implicated in the News of the World hacking case, having both paid
out-of-court settlements for individual hacking incidents and apparently been informed of the widespread nature of those activities years before in an email he
later claimed not to have read. He has since been reformed and redeemed, because money, and now is seen as a capable heir to his father because, as I mentioned, money.
