Ring of Fire, the nationally syndicated American talk radio program hosted by
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,
Mike Papantonio and
Sam Seder, has joined the Rush Limbaugh farewell party. The
Ring Of Fire staff reports:
"Limbaugh’s crumbling career is a perfect storm of departing advertisers, low ratings, and an over-priced, $50 million-a-year syndication fee. Media companies no longer view Limbaugh as a viable investment."
"Cumulus Media carried Limbaugh for several years. Recently, the company publicly announced that it would not be continuing business with Limbaugh in major markets. Although Limbaugh wasn’t completely cut out of Cumulus, the company made it known that Limbaugh wasn’t “untouchable” anymore."
Eric Boelhert, who recently wrote an excellent
Media Matters piece on Rush Limbaugh is credited several times in the Ring Of Fire story. Boehlert, who kindly sources a
Daily Kos article, realistically and extensively unfolds the Rush Limbaugh demise. It's well worth the read. At one point in his story, Boehlert talks about Limbaugh losing his Republican mojo:
"That disconnect may be fueling Limbaugh's waning political influence. Once a mighty player whose ring was constantly kissed by Republicans, this campaign season seems to be unfolding with Limbaugh on the sidelines, his clout and his ability to drive the conversation seemingly surpassed by other conservative media players."
In the same article, and referring to Rush Limbaugh's
demotion from WIBC to WNDE,
RadioInsight is reported saying:
“There’s no way iHeartMedia would’ve placed Limbaugh on an owned sports station if the company had any other affiliation options in the market,” said radio-industry reporter RadioInsight. “But when everyone one else says no and you need to save face, options become limited.”
Ring Of Fire ends their article with a swift double dig:
"Rush Limbaugh is on the way out, and it can’t happen any sooner. He’s becoming a prehistoric relic, much like his party."
Ouch. One would think by now the 'relic' Republican Party would have distanced themselves from Rush Limbaugh, if anything, out of embarrassment. Well, more Right Wing pundits are doing just that. Last year, Rick Ungar, a regular on Forbes On Fox, was
less than complimentary, saying:
"At long last, it appears that Rush Limbaugh has run out of steam. I have to acknowledge that I have sensed Rush getting by on fumes for some time now (yes, I tune into his show from time to time to enjoy his broadcasting skills if not his message). However, it was only recently that the world of Limbaugh crossed that thin red line from partially serious to total self-parody and audience deception—a line crossed from which there is often no return."
Daryl Parks, of the GOP, is relentless in his attacks and shaming of Rush Limbaugh. In a recent March 2015 blog, Parks says:
"Don’t believe the propaganda. There isn’t a 747 on a tarmac full of advertisers waiting to buy into shows like Rush Limbaugh’s."
"And I’m a Republican saying this. It hurts me deeply to witness how talk radio has been taken over by those driven by agenda and not understanding their job descriptions – get listeners, get ratings and make money. The end times are here for today’s talk radio and there’s no going back."
Whether or not Parks is correct in there being 'no going back' for talk radio, there is no doubt Rush Limbaugh has been the predominant ball and chain of the conservative 'hate parade.' His vile,
racist, homophobic, misogynist commentary is finally doing him in. And may I say it's about f*cking time. Much thanks to the hundreds of thousands of activists, boycotters, news/opinion sites, consumers, and every day folks who are fed up and who refuse to give up the fight against Limbaugh's hate speech. Special thanks to those who have been protesting Limbaugh's for decades.
