Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI)
Scott Walker's trip to Great Britain
didn't go so well in February, when it happened, and somehow it's still biting him in the ass. In June. The Wisconsin Republican is in trouble over his
efforts to impress Republican donors by talking about his meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron:
Walker reportedly told Republican donors at a recent event that Cameron confided in him he was concerned about the direction of current leadership in the United States.
“I heard that from David Cameron back in February earlier when we were over at 10 Downing,” Walker said. “I heard it from other leaders around the world. They’re looking around realizing this lead from behind mentality just doesn’t work. It’s just not working.”
But TIME reports that British officials insist Cameron said no such thing.
Now that he's been called a liar, Walker says he
won't comment anymore.
"I'm just not going to comment on individual meetings I had with leaders like that, be it there or anyone else," the White House hopeful told reporters when asked about Cameron's comments. [...]
"That's something I'm not going to do going forward," he said in a conference call from Canada, where he is wrapping up a state trade mission.
Doubtless world leaders everywhere are heaving a sigh of relief (but also vowing to record future conversations with Walker in case they have to prove what they did and didn't say).
