Left-leaning
Faithful America, the Christian organization who last year
called out and petitioned Sarah Palin, is also after the Koch Brothers. It appears
those dastardly 'All For Two' Koch brothers are stepping into some of the Pope's business by trying to bribe their way onto Catholic universities. I mean why just settle for secular colleges, when you can buy them all? Perhaps, with a little help from social media, this latest Koch acquisition can be squelched.
In their online petition, Faithful America states:
Pope Francis is making headlines, warning that "we can no longer trust in the unseen forces and the invisible hand of the market. Growth in justice requires more than economic growth." Meanwhile, America's flagship Catholic university is planning to take a million dollars from the Koch brothers to spread their right-wing, anti-poor agenda.
The billionaire Koch brothers are the biggest funders of the tea party movement and the anti-government think tanks that are waging war on anti-poverty programs.
But even though the Koch brothers' efforts are clearly out of step with Catholic social teaching, the Catholic University of America just announced a million dollar donation from Charles Koch to their business and economics school.
The Koch brothers' past donations to universities have come with strings attached -- Charles Koch used a similar donation to veto most of the professors another university wanted to hire with his donation.
Catholic University needs to put Pope Francis' vision of a church for the poor ahead of the Koch brothers' radical agenda.
Sign the petition: "Don't take the Koch Brothers' money"
The Koch brothers' agenda and the strings they attach to their donations are incompatible with the educational mission of the Catholic University of America. Don't take their money.
FSU Students, as well as students around the country, are fighting the fight against the Koch's unwanted presence and influence on their campuses and in their education. I have a feeling the students will win.
As part of the Christian 'Left' (with a splash of Buddhism), I'm always grateful to see people of faith stand up for what's good and right in this world. I believe they far outnumber the pseudo-Christian extremists we often see holding/hogging the loudspeaker, spewing racism, homophobia, and misogyny. That's not what Jesus would do. That's not what any decent human being would do.
Many thanks to Faithful America, for their work. Here is their Petition
Special thanks to Beka!
