This Sunday, “This Week” covers the latest on the historic Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage across the nation, with the man behind the case, Jim Obergefell.
Then, 2016 presidential candidates former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders weigh in on “This Week” Sunday....
...And the powerhouse roundtable debates all the week’s politics, with Family Research Council senior fellow Ken Blackwell, and ABC News contributor and Democratic strategist Donna Brazile, ABC News political analyst Matthew Dowd, and ABC’s Cokie Roberts.
Yes, the man who said, there’s
“nothing more Christian” than massive food stamp cuts, and ” that gay marriage would be a historic wrong, the public must “take a stand” against its legalization “because it is just as pivotal as the Civil War, World War II and our response to 9/11 as a human community,” is going to be insulting our intelligence and morals on ABC tomorrow morning.
That man is Ken Blackwell, a Family Research Council Fellow. He works for the same man who paid Josh Duggars's salary. You remember child molester Josh, right? That should be a clue for George and ABC. One of many. You know, like the it's ok to kill gays in Uganda Bill that the FRC tried to get going in the House of Representatives.
Ugandan Resolution
In 2010, the FRC paid $25,000 to congressional lobbyists for what they described as "Res.1064 Ugandan Resolution Pro-homosexual promotion" in a lobbying disclosure report.[67] The US House of Representatives resolution condemned the Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill,[68] a bill which, among other things, would have imposed either the death penalty or life imprisonment for sexual relations between persons of the same sex.[69][70][71][72]
Following exposure of the lobbying contribution in June 2010, the FRC issued a statement denying that they were trying to kill the bill, but rather that they wanted to change the language of the bill "to remove sweeping and inaccurate assertions that homosexual conduct is internationally recognized as a fundamental human right." They further stated, "FRC does not support the Uganda bill, and does not support the death penalty for homosexuality - nor any other penalty which would have the effect of inhibiting compassionate pastoral, psychological, and medical care and treatment for those who experience same-sex attractions or who engage in homosexual conduct".[73] The Ugandan Resolution was revived by Uganda's President Museveni in 2012.[74]
FRC used one of Museveni's speeches in an e-mail to its supporters praising Uganda’s commitment to Christian faith and "national repentance" around the time that he reintroduced the Anti-Homosexuality Bill. The speech did not refer to homosexuality specifically, but did mention "sexual immorality" among the sins for which Ugandans must repent.[75][76]
But apparently there is no depth of right wing nuttery disguised as
Family Values that ABC and George find a bridge too far.
The Sunday after the Supreme Court ruled for Marriage Equality, George is going to have a twofer of homophobic haters and ranters. Mike Huckabee, fresh off his defense of child molester Josh Duggar, AND Ken Blackwell. Stuck right in the middle of them is our wonderfully sane Bernie Sanders. Can't help feel badly for him, which of course leads to a song.
Now I don't know about you, but I have a problem with any network trying to mainstream the kind of hate Huckabee and Blackwell represent, for hate is what it is, no matter how many Biblical references they try to wrap around it.
I find Stephanopoulos' invitation of just one them highly offensive on any day, but especially so after Friday's landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage. They could at least have left out the guy working for the hate group.
I'm not the only one having issues with ABC's and Stephanopoulos's actions.
Faithful America is -
the largest and fastest-growing online community of Christians putting faith into action for social justice. Our members are sick of sitting by quietly while Jesus' message of good news is hijacked by the religious right to serve a hateful political agenda. We're organizing the faithful to challenge such extremism and renew the church's prophetic role in building a more free and just society.
Faithful America's efforts were instrumental in getting
Family Research Council President, Tony Perkins, off the air at NBC. Now they want to clear the airwaves at ABC and could use your help.
They have a petition they'd love for you to sign which they will then deliver to ABC and George. I want news coverage of that. Lots of news coverage.
"How does it feel to give a hate group air time, George?"
"Exactly what kind of journalism are you engaged in here, George?
You planing on calling him out for a hate filled loony tune or just going to let his mouth spew out crap?"
Are you going to have a spokesperson for moderate or liberal Christian churches on your show to speak to these issues? No? Why not?
Can we expect a member of the KKK on your show to discuss the shootings in Charleston, SC and the role of the Confederate Flag?
What's happening is the normalization of a hate filled right wing Christianity. That can not be allowed to stand. It has to stop and we can help make that happen.
Faithful America and countless other Liberal/Progressive people of Faith are past tired of those trying to jam their hate down our throats.
Family Research Council doesn't speak for Christians
our goal: 15,000 signatures
Posted: June 26, 2015
The ink is barely dry on the Supreme Court's decision, and already ABC News is turning to a hate group leader to speak for Christians.
On Sunday, This Week With George Stephanopoulos is scheduled to feature Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow with the Family Research Council.
Blackwell has said that gay marriage contributes to mass shootings, and the Family Research Council has been designated a hate group for its decades-long record of spreading lies about LGBT people -- especially the claim that gay men molest children.
Other networks have stopped featuring Family Research Council spokespeople when Christians have complained, so now it's time to make sure Stephanopoulos and ABC News hear from us.
Sign the petition:...
They could use your help. Our LGBT brothers and sisters don't need to be demonized, yet again. So lets sign and share the petition, ok?
