I say ad, because the 'History' channel here in the Philippines hasn't shown the full trailer, at least not while I've been watching. The series premiere is scheduled towards the end of July here, so obviously I haven't seen any episodes.
I have read reviews, watched the trailer online and so on.
Head below the Orange gang sign for why I am livid.
At a time when we are finally, belatedly and drenched in the blood of innocents, throwing Confederate flags in the garbage bin of actual history (their rightful place, if only because they would clog most toilets) and even the likes of Walmart - Walmart, friend to neither man nor beast - have joined in, we get this tripe from 'History'.
The slogan for this series in the ad is "For liberty, for justice, for Texas". That is an outright lie.
While critics have generally found the series wanting, both in dramatic terms and historical terms, none - none - of them seem to dare to prick the balloon of this giant lie. Oh, they mention the zero-to-one dimensional portrayal of Mexicans and Native Americans (both are bad, because they won't let the Righteous White Texians do whatever they want).
But none of them address the Big Lie: White Texians didn't rise up for freedom or justice, they rose up because they didn't like being ruled by brown people and they especially didn't like slavery being illegal in Mexico.
I dare 'History' and anyone else to tell me how that is liberty or justice.
Of course, if you only count 'white people' doing a Cartman ("Whateva, I do what I want"), that might be ok. But I don't only count white people.
'History' doesn't care about truth, freedom or justice. They don't even care about history.
The time has come for us to push back. HARD.
