We must launch a political revolution which engages millions of Americans from all walks of life in the struggle for real change. This country belongs to all of us, not just the billionaire class. And that’s what this campaign is all about.
To win this campaign, all of us must be deeply involved. Our movement needs people like you to help it succeed.
A quote directly from the Sanders campaign website - and the words came directly out of Bernie Sanders' own mouth. You see, Bernie gets it. He understands that in order for a movement to take hold, it has to be about all of us. He gets that the lift is too big for only him to do - so he is trying to get us all involved and engaged in order for the movement to grow and ultimately become successful. You've heard Bernie say this at events both large and small. The message is constant, consistent and unrelenting - and people are responding. People are also pouring out of the woodwork, responding to Bernie's positive message about the economy, income inequality, and getting the money out of politics. And they are taking action - they have bought into the idea that in order for the movement to become successful, they need to do their part.
And that is exactly what three women across the state of Virginia have done - Liz Runnion, Mary Lou Burke and K. Roy. What these three women are doing in the state of Virginia is truly representative of what this campaign is all about - getting involved, holding an event, and start organizing for the coming campaign. These three women get it - they don't wait for the campaign to tell them what to do, they take the tools the campaign has given them and build their own local movement, helping to build the movement from the bottom up.
Liz Runnion is a volunteer with the People for Bernie Campaign. Liz has taken the initiative and has posted a Meet Up on the People for Bernie Campaign website and here are the details:
Sunday, July 12, 2015
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Reston Regional Library; Meeting Room 2
11925 Bowman Town Dr
Reston, VA 20190
I am coordinating with a group in Richmond, and we are going to be getting petitions to get Bernie on the Ballot. I will be instructing people on what to do for that. We will collectively decide, plan, manage our area, when we need people and hours...you know all the good stuff.
This is so awesome Liz is taking this on - and clearly she knows what she is doing. Apparently in Virgina, a candidate has to obtain signatures on petitions in order to qualify the candidate a spot on the ballot. But - you need several thousand signatures from each congressional district to qualify - I am not sure of the exact number. And the fact that she is also interacting with another group south of Northern Virginia is awesome. These are the types of meetings that a volunteer can arrange to get the campaign rolling in a particular area, and grow the movement as time goes by constantly bringing new people into the organization.
So, give a helping hand to Liz. Listed below is the link to her event - email it, post if to your Facebook page, and Tweet it so people who are interested in attending the event. That is how each of us can assist those on the ground who are posting these events, by helping spreading the word.

And here is the link to the NOVA for Bernie Sanders 2016 Facebook page. Please distribute far and wide because we really need to get more people involved in Northern. it's the most liberal part of the state, home to a ton or progressives, so help spread the word.

Mary Lou Burke is a Sanders volunteer from the southeast corner of Virginia (Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Norfolk, Portsmouth) and clearly, Mary Lou Feels the Bern - so much so that Mary Lou registered as a volunteer on Bernie Sanders and
arranged her own campaign monthly meeting of supporters willing to campaign for Bernie Sanders in South Hampton Roads: Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, etc. Listed below are the details of the event:
Monday, July 27, 2015 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EDT
Host: Mary Lou Burke
Cutting Edge Cafe
1434 Sams Drive, Suite 102
Chesapeake, VA 23320
The Sanders campaign website is set up for each of us to use to arrange your own event, just like Mary Lou did. It also allows you to search their website so you can find events to attend in your local area. So, show Mary Lou some love and help distribute the link to her event through Facebook, Twitter and via email so she has the help she needs on the ground to win this thing.

Now meet K. Roy, who started Virginians for Bernie Sanders 2016 on Meet Up's website.
Connect with fellow supporters in Central Virginia (Cville, Richmond, Norfolk) and help #FuelTheBern across the state. We welcome political junkies, first-time voters, and everyone else in between. Let's attend festivals, town halls, and local civic events to spread primary election awareness.
This group is intended as a supplement for the twitter account — @virginia4bernie — launched after a group of us watched Senator Sanders' presidential announcement speech in Burlington, VT. We are made up of Republicans, Independent voters, Democrats, moms, millennials, activists, business owners, and students. We are taking action to support #Bernie2016, because we believe America needs EFFECTIVE action from our lawmakers on economic & racial inequality, climate change, and getting money out of politics. Bernie Sanders' consistent 30-year record demonstrates his values and priorities, and tells us he means business!
K is off to a fast start, collecting almost 50 members in her group so far, having only started the group on June 5, 2015 and they have another Meet Up in scheduled in Richmond and here is the information for their event below:
Saturday, July 11, 2015
8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Crossroads Coffee and Ice Cream
3600 Forest Hill Ave, Richmond, VA
K's group will be tabling & canvassing Saturday crowds at the South of the James farmer's market as well as the Latin Jazz Festival in Byrd Park. Their 1st goal: Collecting signatures to get Bernie on the VA ballot!
So, if you live in Richmond and surrounding suburbs, or across the state, you can help K by first joining her group on Meet Up. Second, RSVP for their event on July 11, 2015 and meet other Sanders supporters as well as find new Sanders supports. Here is the link to do both:
http://www.meetup.com/...
So you see, here are three different examples on how to arrange a meeting to identify local supporters by - marketing your meeting through PeopleforBernie.com, through the Sanders campaign website, or through Meet Up. So, what are you waiting for? Set up your own local meeting or attend one sponsored by others through these websites and help harness the energy.
So, what these three women are doing is awesome! And so is the work of every volunteer working to grow the movement. These are exciting times, so get involved and do your part to grow the movement as well.
And if you are working with a local group, highlight a diary about the work you all are doing. We would all love to hear about it and it helps build excitement and momentum.
Go Bernie!
