Yesterday, the group Sanctity of Marriage Alabama organized a press conference in Montgomery to protest the Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision, which devolved into an unhinged anti-gay rally.
Beeker, the public service commissioner, kicked things off by calling the Supreme Court’s decision “an assault on God” and on “our Christian heritage” that rendered the 10th Amendment “null and void.”
In the opening video, Beeker claims at about 22 seconds in that the Marriage Equality decision was an assault on
God. At about 40 seconds in he claims that the Judiciary is a bigger threat than ISIS. At about 57 seconds he says that the Justices do not have wisdom or do not fear
God.
Why is that these morons / bigots claim on the one hand that America is not a religious dictatorship and yet turn around and consistently say that Judges and politicians should make decisions based on Christian beliefs?!? Their very actions and what they fight for says more clearly than anything they claim to think that they most certainly do want America to be a religious dictatorship!
These idiots simply do not believe in separation of church & state and think it is a one way street; that they can do anything they want or impose anything they want on the rest of us and the government has no right to interfere with their delusions of grandeur!!
More below the fold.
Not to be outdone, Sanctity of Marriage Alabama spokesman Tom Ford, who called marriage equality part of a “war against God” and a “new invention” the results of which “no one knows.”
But he had some guesses. “The best indication that I have of what it will bring is what we’ve seen in the Bible,” he said. “I can go to Soddom and Gomorrah. In history, we can go to Pompeii, we can go to other places, we can look at Nero in the time of Rome. And in these times God brought destruction, and he also raised up people to speak his truth and he also drew people to himself. And this is our hope.”
Despite the fact that Soddom and Gomorrah happened because of inhospitality I find it very telling that so-called peaceful religious fundamentalists (dictator wanna-be’s) always seem to relish and look forward to violence and death…and of course the Rapture!
At about 27 seconds in to this video clip Ford says that some freedoms trump other freedoms and that his right to religious freedom trumps our right to marry! Essentially he is saying that he believes their religious freedom gives them the right to enforce their beliefs on the rest of us.
I tire of these theocratic fools acting like their First Amendment rights somehow give them some inherent right to discriminate against and pervasively persecute others and force their beliefs down our throats!
Baptist street preacher Tommy Littleton sounded a similar alarm, saying “the human rights issue of our era” is “protecting our children from what is nothing short of gay liberation theology, full sexual liberation.”
“Today we live in probably the most challenging time of our generation, of our nation’s history,” he said, warning of an impending “climate of fear, loss of free speech, loss of religious freedom, and the overwhelming tsunami that is coming against us and our families and our churches and our children.”
At about 1 minute, 4 seconds into the above video clip, Littleton claims he has never met a Gay person he didn’t love. Such a blatant and outright lie since every action he takes seeks to legally discriminate against and pervasively persecute LGBT people and deny them their rights. People simply don’t try to deny others the rights they themselves take for granted out love, they do it out of hate!!
Becky Gerritson, head of the Wetumpka Tea Party, cited an unfounded right-wing rumor about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wanting to lower the age of consent to 12 years old to warn that the court’s decision paves the way for adult-child marriage and plural marriage.
So Gerritson supports the out of context lie started by Lindsey Graham that Ruth Ginsburg wants to lower the age of consent to 12. That is hogwash since Ginsburg was only expressing support for equal application of the law to male and females.
Eidsmoe, who works for Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore’s Foundation for Moral Law, hinted at future challenges to the Supreme Court ruling, saying “this is far from over” and referring to legislators and probate judges who are ready to “obey God rather than man.”
Listen bigots, America is NOT a theocracy and you cannot force your religious beliefs on the rest of us!
All Judges and indeed all public officials swear an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution, NOT God! America is a Constitutional Republic, NOT a theocracy! We will not let you religious fundamentalists turn America into a dictatorship!
Radical religious fundamentalists have been allowed to have way too much influence on the politics in America and now they claim entitlement to it. Well I’m here to tell you in no uncertain terms you are NOT entitled to it!!
