Confederate Generals carved into Stone Mountain
Stone Mountain is racist. It was the birthplace of the modern KKK, and the Confederate generals that are carved into it were put their as a big fu*k you to the civil rights movement. It makes no sense for this place to be a Confederate memorial.
As much as people want to deny the racist nature of the mountain, racists can't help but do racist crap.
Case in point...
Atlanta City Councilman Michael Bond presented the idea that Dr. Martin Luther King and other famous Georgians be carved into the mountain alongside the Confederate generals (none of whom were born in Georgia).
Immediately, the hate mail and death threats came in.
The email accused Bond of being “nothing but a scumbag piece of s*hit.”
“I hope you and your family eat sh*t and choke and die,” the emailer wrote. “Black lives don’t matter. The only good n***r is a dead n***r.”
Bond said that he was concerned about his safety, but he was not deterred from exploring the options for Stone Mountain.
“I’m going to take it in stride,” he remarked. “It underscores to me more of the reason to have the debate, more of the reason to have the discussion so that these types highly negative and printing and poison attitudes can be confronted.”
But the mountain isn't racist, right?
