Wow, our July 25th Meet-up was great!! You don't want to miss our next one; we're going to be discussing what we want to get involved in and where the group's energies should go.
Below the fold are pictures, meeting summary and dates through December of 2015!
Registration table getting busy!
These folks were smart and got there early!
Dude, that is a seriously cool beard. No, really.
The long table.
Congressional candidate Jerry Modica in the corner. He's planning on challenging Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson in the TX-30.
Another view of the long table.
So we had 28 people in attendance which is a HUGE increase in turnout for us (our biggest meet-up in 2015 before this was 4). I was so excited! The demographics were probably pretty typical for Daily Kos.
So we had 11 women, 17 guys, 5 African American and 1 Latino attend.
On the sign up sheet, I asked people to list their political interests and this was the response:
Voting Rights 5
Income Inequality 5
Healthcare 3
Black Lives Matter 3
Environment 3
Presidential Campaign 2
Bernie Sanders 2
Hillary Clinton 1
Social Justice 1
Criminal Justice 1
Immigration 1
Local Politics 1
Social Security 1
LGBT 1
Womens Rights 1
Liberty 1
Nutrition 1
Turning Texas Blue 1
Catte Nappe agreed to monitor the Hillary Clinton campaign for events in Dallas so we could notify people about those; I have agreed to do the same for the Sanders campaign. No attendees voiced an interest in doing so for O'Malley, Chafee or Webb but I will be on the lookout for anyone willing to report on those campaigns.
Speaking of which, the Bernie Sanders Campaing is having an event on Wed. July 29th. I'm hoping to have details for a Dallas Meetup for that soon!
At the moment, we have agreed to stick with the lunchtime meet-ups and for the moment, keep the same location.
Dates we are looking at for 2015:
August 22nd (definite)
September 26th
October 24th
November 21st
December 19th
So please, please, come join us as we get going! We are a bunch of really cool and interesting Texas progressives and we need your energy and ideas as we shape the future of Dallas Kossacks!
