A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Do you like playing and/or watching sports? If so what sports team do you love? What sports team do you love to hate?
In the 1970's, Detroit's professional sports teams flat out sucked. There were individual stars; Ron Leflore, Bob Lanier, Mark "The Bird" Fidrych (but only in 1976) and a few others. Nevertheless, it was painful to be a Detroit Tigers/Lions/Pistons/Red Wings fan in the 1970's.
So I became a fan of college sports, especially football, and no team then or now dearer to me The University of Michigan Wolverines. When I hear the word "anthem, I think not of "The Star-Spangled Banner but the greatest college fight song of all time, "Hail To The Victors."
One of my first diaries here at The Great Orange Satan was a fan diary so I will not repeat any of that stuff.
(BTW, you may have heard that Michigan has a new football coach...but I digress)
So if the Michigan Wolverines are may favorite team then the team that I love to hate the most is...well pretty obvious.
Oh, and don't think that it can't get serious.
PORT CLINTON (13abc Action News) – The Border Battle played a role in getting two people arrested and locked up at the Ottawa County Jail.
A Michigan-Ohio State football argument on the Jet Express allegedly prompted a fight that resulted in assault charges.
Witnesses say the rivalry argument turned physical between two couples with a woman pulling another woman’s hair and the two men throwing punches at each other.
It divides households and pits neighbor against neighbor.
Buckeyes versus Wolverines.
The Border Battle rages every November … but on the water in July?
"That's ridiculous,” says Gary Mahoney, a Sparty fan about to board the Jet Express.
Around 1:45 Sunday morning Port Clinton police arrested a couple from Oregon. They’re accused of assault on the Jet Express as the boat was headed to the dock.
The fight between 25-year-old Ashley Artiaga, 31-year-old Ian Schuster, and complete strangers on the top deck allegedly began because of an argument over Michigan-Ohio State football.
"They were arguing, cursing at each other,” says Ben Freeman, a witness from Cincinnati who was in town for a fishing trip. “As the argument went on, the Michigan fan's girlfriend stood up, pulled the hair of the Ohio State's fan's girlfriend … the wife, actually. He tried to defend his wife by shoving the Michigan fan's girlfriend. The Michigan fan stood up and tried to defend his girlfriend. And after that they mutually started to fist fight and swing on each other. It was crazy.”
"It happens,” says Todd Blumensaadt, owner of the Jet Express. “They get very passionate about their teams."
Of course, The Border Battle has been going on for
a mighty long time.
To be fair, the Port Clinton, Ohio summer boat brawl isn't as bad as some other incidents involving rival fans.
But, considering Michigan's record against our arch-rival lately (and really, over the past decade) let's face it, we're really not in any position to throw down against the fans of the defending national champions (unless provoked, of course).
At least not until November 28, 2015.
Anything could happen. (I'm pretty sure that Michigan won't be a 40 1/2 point underdog, though.)

Announcing Asheville, North Carolina as the location
for our next Regional Event! 9.26.15
Asheville, N.C. is the destination for September 26, 2015! DKos Asheville, the In-Real-Life group under the leadership of randallt, has been setting the example for other IRL groups across the nation regarding registering people to vote, getting out the vote, having a state open thread and setting up strategy conferences for their region. Because of this impressive leadership we've asked randallt to be the State Leader for all of North Carolina. We've got important work to do on the ground there and randallt has shown he's the person to make that happen.
All states are welcome to attend this event and if you do you can expect to meet Markos Moulitsas in person, as well as some of the Daily Kos staff. More details regarding this regional event will be shared in the future so please stay tuned to Connect! Unite! Act!
For now, SAVE THE DATE and spread the word!
navajo maintains the above event list. Kosmail her if you have any diaries
about your event or if you have changes or additions.
EVERYONE is welcome, tell us what you're working on,
share your show and tell, vent, whatever you want.
This is an open thread. Nothing is off topic.
