The 2015 Democratic primary will determine the ongoing direction the party takes. This makes it bigger that simply winning or losing a single general election contest for the office of President. The Democratic party needs to decide if it wants to continue betting its future ... or remember the FDR strategy of attracting people by vigorously advocating for them.
Sure William Jefferson Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama both won election twice. But, in thoughtful retrospect, do the results of those 16 years that a Democrat occupied the White House leave you feeling better off?
Think of the actions of both men. Think of the actions of the Justice Department under both men. Think of the tax policies of both administrations. Think of the degree to which each of these men worked hard for workers ability to organize and bargain collectively. Think of specific decisions that these two men made in regard to clima
I suggest we each ask ourselves these questions: Are you better of as a result of the party's strategy ... since 1972 ... to be about attracting dollars? Even when the party won ... as it did with Clinton and Obama ... did the results leave you better off? When attracting Wall Street and corporate dollars ... did the results leave you better off? Even when the Democrats controlled the White House and both branches of the congress, did the results leave you feeling better off?
Sure, the Democratic party policy of being focused on attracting dollars won four presidential elections. Did the long term results of those 14 years and counting leave you feeling better off?
Think of the years when William Jefferson Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama II sat in the oval office as your President. Did these two men work hard in at least an attempt to achieve specific results that you cared greatly about?
In your heart of hearts, where you are completely honest with yourself, did these two men work to avoid the ravages of dramatic climate change ... press for changes in the financial arena that will improve the lives of the 99% ... advocate in behalf of trade policies that will support the working and middle classes ... ? Or did they really spend the majority of their time and energy attracting large campaign donations?
Finally, ask yourself this: Which of the two candidates most written about at DailyKos is most dedicated to attracting dollars ... and which is most dedicated to attract people?
