Only news here is for The Donald: you're not gonna win the Hispanic vote, according to the latest
WSJ/NBC/Telemundo poll. Sorry.
The poll of 250 Hispanic adults found that 75% had a negative view of Mr. Trump, the real-estate mogul who announced his campaign for the GOP presidential nomination mid-June. Some 13% said they had a positive view of Mr. Trump.
Okay, we knew that, even if the The Donald didn't, right? But Trump's candidacy should consistently be viewed in terms of the legacy it will hold for the GOP nominee, whoever that turns out to be. Trump is continually exposing the virulent anti-immigrant nativist strain of the Republican Party. Let's keep in mind that the polling firm Latino Decisions is now projecting the GOP will have to win
47 percent of the Latino vote in 2016 to take back the White House.
The poll also asked Latino voters whether they thought Trump was a GOP anomaly or his views were broadly representative of Republicans.
Half said they believed the comment was just Mr. Trump’s belief and “not shared by most Republicans.” However, 29% said he was speaking for most Republicans.
That 29 percent is likely to grow the more Trump talks and the more his star rises in the polls. Mitt Romney did horrible among Latino voters in 2012 (27 percent or less), worse than John McCain. Nothing about The Donald is helping the GOP reverse that downward trend.
