I'm probably known here for diaries that are far too long for anyone to get through, because I usually think there's just too much to say leave anything out -- and I want to make every point clearly. This one will be different, because President Obama is showing another, much stronger way to make the point.
Climate change has been my major concern for years now -- for about two decades, and I've seen precious little response and action to address the greatest threat we've ever faced. I've written lots of words, as have countless others -- but given the scale of the problem, deeds have been massively inadequate and horribly delayed. I can write for hours trying to make this case.....
But, maybe nothing was as compelling as the tears in the President's eyes as he implored us with the appeal to do something because "we are the last generation who can do anything about it."
I''m reminded a little of the PSAs during the 70s, with a crying Native American looking at the polluted landscape. That was incredibly effective in getting the point across -- in making profound changes in how many Americans conducted themselves and discussed the issues. Perhaps, the President's tears can have the same impact.
It's not too late. Can the President's tears move a nation to action? I hope so, because words are not enough.
