Chafee Visits New Hampshire Diner, Has Pie
(Keene, NH, August 1) Democratic presidential candidate Lincoln Chafee visited the Bluebird Diner in Keene yesterday and ordered a slice of the diner's famed blueberry pie. No one approached Chafee as he sat quietly at the counter, sipping coffee and taking small bites of his pie.
After dabbing the corners of his mouth with a paper napkin, Chafee asked for the check and left a fifteen percent tip. On the way out, Chafee approached several other diners and introduced himself as "Lincoln Chafee running for president as a Democrat."
One man responded, incredulously, "You have to declare a party now to run for president of the Chamber of Commerce?"
Chafee responded, "No, I'm running for President of the United States."
The man replied, "Oh, you're one of those," and went back to reading his newspaper.
Another woman seated nearby smiled and shook Chafee's hand as he introduced himself. "You remind me of our family doctor when I was a child. Such a nice man. Dr. Finster. Did you know him?"
Chafee said he did not, and the woman continued, "My mother had corns -- I have some now, as well, must be genetic -- and he was just brilliant with them. Gave her these little things to put in between her toes to relieve the pain. Some kind of gauze or medicated pads of some sort. She said they were lifesavers because just walking had become such a pain. I think he finally ended up removing the corns, but I can't recall if--"
Chafee cut her off and moved to the door, on his way to his next campaign stop.
In other news, Chafee was mentioned in a tweet from someone:

@LincolnChafee Do you still want us to hold your reservation at the Plymouth House Bed & Breakfast for next Thursday?

Linc met with two former college roommates, Mary and Tom Swinfleford, at their home in
Pembroke:
"We sent out invitations to our neighbors about having a house party for Linc, but, it being vacation season and all, no one could make it. So it was just us," said Tom Swinfleford. "It was still nice."
Chafee discussed his plans for the first one hundred days of his presidency, including his call for a Day of National Civility and Good Manners, targeted toward the day after Christmas.
On a personal note, I find it highly disrespectful that kos doesn't even include Linc in his front page poll. I will continue to publish these updates about Chafee's campaign as the season progresses, probably not daily, though, because it took me nearly a week just to find and collect these scraps.
Thank you for reading, and if, like me, you believe this great man will be "The Second Lincoln," please comment below!
