If you are old enough you will remember that after after turning from supporter to opponent Walter Cronkite would sign off his CBS Evening News cast each night with the number of US Military killed to date in the Vietnam War. As the tally mounted so did the resistance. Walter Cronkite was so respected that President Nixon said that when we lost Cronkite we lost Cronkite we lost the war. The Guardian does something similar withThe Counted-People Killed in the US by police. The database is searchable and not all are black and not all are unarmed. As Joe Friday said on the old Dragnet TV series it's, "just the facts."
I find myself compelled to look at the site each day to reflect on the state of our nation and to look at the pictures and remind myself that the dry numbers represent real humans who are gunned down or otherwise killed by cops each and every day in the name of justice. Does this seem just to you?
