I just attended an organizational meeting in downtown Denver at La Rumba Dance Club for Clinton supporters. The first part of the event was getting folks to commit to organizing their precinct for the caucuses here, which are on March 1st.
The highlight was an appearance by Hillary, who is also in the state for a couple of fundraisers. She was introduced by a number of local pols, most notably Diana Degette, Congresswoman for CO-1 and a big liberal. Central themes of intros: Hilary is a fighter who knows how to fight and will fight for you. Also, she's got a lot of experience fighting, especially taking a hit and keeping on fighting. Works for me.
I noticed a LOT of younger women in the audience. Not so many old leftie fogies like me as I'd expected.
And Hillary spoke to them. She spoke for about 30 minutes and had 3 major themes: the assault on women's health, specifically Planned Parenthood, the assault on immigrants and her support for Dreamers and a Path to Citizenship and the need to aggressively address climate change. Along the line she addressed issues of inequality in all these themes. To me, she sounded like a real liberal, because that's what she is. She also gave the Republicans a lot of crap, especially Jeb. I guess I felt she successfully created a sense of intimacy and common purpose among those of us in the room.
Lots of enthusiasm but also a real emphasis on the need to organize for the caucuses. Not sure how many full-timers she already has, but is taking CO caucuses seriously this early.
No interest personally in ideological flame wars. I think the Democratic Party is very fortunate to have such great candidates. Just thought folks would want to know about this event.
