Chuck Schumer will soon announce his opposition to the Iran Deal. This harkens back to his days as a strident cheerleader for the Iraq war.
[It] is Hussein's vigorous pursuit of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons, and his present and potential future support for terrorist acts and organizations, that make him a terrible danger to the people to the United States.
This warmonger will likely be the next Democratic leader of the Senate, which could be disastrous to progressive initiatives on foreign policy.
Furthermore, this is a slap in the face to President Barack Obama. If Obamacare was Obama's signature domestic achievement, the Iran deal is Obama's signature foreign policy achievement and Schumer has utterly capitulated to the war lobby when his President needed him most. Can this man be considered a reliable leader in the Senate? It is amazing that a true Democrat like Dick Durbin is being shoved aside in favor of someone as unreliable as Schumer.
It is imperative as progressives that we lobby our Senators when the time comes to not support Chuck "the warmonger" Schumer as leader of the Democrats in the Senate. This honor should go to Dick Durbin who was one of the brave few to have voted against war with Iraq and will soon be voting for peace with Iran.
