Have you seen this stunning and inspirational new ad in support of Bernie Sanders?
The huge crowds that have turned out to see Bernie are indeed an inspirational sight for anyone hoping for a progressive revolution in this country, and this video is surely intended go viral with the help of dedicated Sanders supporters.
There's only one problem: the source.
Sen. Bernie Sanders may not have blessed a super-PAC for his Democratic presidential bid, but he’s getting support from an odd place: a Republican outside group.
America Rising, the Republican rapid response group, released a new video Tuesday night touting Sanders’ success on the campaign trail and noting that he drew an “eye-popping 70,000 supporters” over a three-day trip out West.
...
The music during the spot crescendos to a peak, where the video ends by showing the Twitter hashtag #FeelTheBern. That’s been co-opted by many Sanders supporters to support his long-shot bid for president.
So what is
this group, founded by Mitt Romney's former campaign manager,
all about?
America Rising PAC was set up in Spring 2013 to serve as an organization on the right for the sole purpose of exposing the truth about Democrats through video tracking, research, and communications. By cataloguing every Democrat utterance we have the data to ensure they are held accountable for their words and actions.
We’re also looking forward to influencing the 2016 elections. The Washington Post and CNN have called America Rising the leading group on the right preparing for a Hillary Clinton candidacy and the earliest sustained effort to begin defining future Democratic presidential contenders.
If I was in one of the large crowds featured here, I'd be completely
pissed that I was also a part of some propaganda video made by a group that fights for everything that I'm against. But no one should be surprised.
Because no matter what the media might suggest, Republicans remain down in the polls against Clinton and know that facing off against her would be a very tough battle to win. At this stage of the game, the GOP's best hopes might be getting a different Democratic nominee altogether, or (at the very least) an opposition party that goes into Election Day 2016 significantly damaged by a contentious primary.
And who can blame the GOP for trying? Just as we are cheering on The Donald, they need someone to cheer on too...
