Politics--the GOP and Alligators
I was having lunch at a fast food restaurant and struck up a conversation with the 18 year old cashier.
She told me she was paid minimum wage. I left her a tip because I thought she was nice (and she was) and sat down to eat the meal I ordered. Then the thought struck me about the economy and politics.
So being a bit bold, I went back up to the cashier and asked her if she was old enough to vote, which is when I found out she was 18 years old.
I then told her: "If you're happy with your minimum wage, vote Republican"!
I hope she thinks about this.
Too many people don't vote. When many do vote, they often vote against their interest. I am an ardent Democrat and hopefully an activist. I have no problem speaking my mind--many of the Kossacks who post comments to DK diaries are likewise not shy about self-expression. Great!
I suggest that whenever the opportunity arises, when you meet a friendly stranger (and most people are friendly when you approach with a smile and a joke (even though mine are often bad), that you mention ONE issue--and only one--that you think will get that person to think about their own self-interest by asking a simple but pointed question. I am not prone to the HARD SELL, and in fact am quite averse to this when it is used on me. But I think this simple tactic of asking one question in friendly manner to a voting-age person concerning their own interests can bring much more attention to our progressive party--and hopefully, some of these folks will actually consider the answer to the question and VOTE for their self-interest--and I'm 99% sure, their self-interest won't be met by Republican policies.
Try this out--you'll like it.
