Donald Trump
gleefully destroyed Jeb! Bush in New Hampshire Wednesday, and Jeb! just had to go and highlight the destruction by
trying to hit back:
“He was a Democrat longer in the last decade than he was a Republican,” Bush said. “Look, Mr. Trump has clearly got talent. . . . But when people look at his record, it is not a conservative record. Even on immigration where . . . the language is pretty vitriolic for sure, but hundreds of millions of dollars of costs to implement his plans is not a conservative plan.”
Of course you have to envision this delivered in bland, no-charisma fashion. And it goes without saying that Trump would
welcome the opportunity to respond:
Invoking conservative icon Ronald Reagan, Trump recalled that the late president “was [once] a Democrat, and really a Democrat with a liberal leaning, or a liberal bent and became a Republican and a pretty conservative Repub—I wouldn’t say the most by any stretch, but a pretty conservative Republican.”
“When you get down to it, I am a conservative person. I am by nature a somewhat conservative person,” he added. “I never looked at putting a label on myself, because frankly putting a label on myself, it didn’t matter — I wasn’t in politics … It was something that absolutely had no bearing on me.”
Since one of the things that Trump's supporters are seemingly excited by is that he wasn't in politics and is approaching this race as an outsider, despite his wealth, he must be privately thanking Bush for giving him the opportunity to highlight all that again.
