There has GOT to be a way out of this mess!
YAYYYYYY!!! Rand Paul got his cookie! The Kentucky state Republican Party voted to have themselves a Presidential caucus next year. This is nothing more than a last flailing, desperate attempt to get Paul around existing Kentucky law that prohibits a candidate from running for two offices at the same time. It comes with a hefty price tag. Paul must transfer $250,000 to the Republican Party by 9/18, or all bets are off, the normal rules apply. But would somebody please explain to me exactly what is the
POINT here?!?
Rand Paul is a non starter in the Republican field. For Gods sake, in North Carolina he's running behind a non qualified candidate by the name of "Deez Nuts"! His campaign message is who the hell knows what since he's getting absolutely zero air time, his fund raising is going to end up being beaten by the Girl Scouts of America's next cookie sale, and his only way of getting face time is by voluntarily going to Haiti to restore poor peasants eyesight. That is simply a statement, not snark or sarcasm. What Rand Paul did in going to Haiti was truly a noble and selfless thing, and I give him full respect and credit for using his skills to help those less fortunate and certainly unable to pay for such services.
But come ON dude! What the hell is he doing here? His campaign run is a joke. He flat out doesn't have the fervor or "true believer" philosophy to match his fathers. And he committed the unconscionable sin of becoming a Republican once he got to Washington. He started on a bad foot, pissing off Mitch McConnell by beating his hand picked patsy in the "Elect a Tea Party Fool" election in 2010, and had to start making amends.
But the more serious thing here is that Rand Paul has problems at home. The Democrats, itching for a chance to flip this seat have started to hitch their wagon to a real rising star. His name is Adam Edelen. He was named at the last national convention as one of the "top rising stars" in the Democratic field. He is energetic, popular within the state, and has that down home way of speaking to other Kentuckians that have some people calling him "The Bill Clinton of Kentucky". He recently blew away the room at the influential "Fancy Farms" gathering in Kentucky. With his in state support and popularity in Kentucky, the Democrats would be fools not to back him to the max, especially against an incumbent who's attention is in two places at once.
So, what's it gonna be Rand? The clock is ticking here. Your entire live campaign appearance crowd total has equaled less than one viewing of "The Apprentice". Nobody gives a shit, and your Super PAC may as well be standing around on street corners with tin cups with pencils in them. You have a young, popular Democrat waiting at home who is hungry to chew you up like a puppy on yesterdays newspaper. As the old saying goes, "No man can serve two masters".
It's time to shit or get off of the pot Rand. Which is it going to be? At least a 50-50 shot at retaining your seat in a real dogfight, or go down in a non existent blaze of glory to the Donald.
Tick, tock, tick tock, tick tock.
