I like making graphics ahead sometimes so I can run them when I have a chance. I have 15 completed posters that aren't scheduled. I have 4 in various states of completion that aren't scheduled and I have 1 I'm working on for this week, 1 more completed and one I haven't even started on.
That's a lot of work.
This one I made the spring of 2014 and forgot to run. So now, almost a year and a half later, I am posting it.
It seems kind of obvious when it's laid out as simple as Lincoln did, which leads me to the question, what are we teaching children today?
In this neoliberal educational system we are poisoning our children with the Capitalist idea of monetizing everyone. Some things should not have a profit motive and education is such a thing!
The values we teach our children is that education is priceless. The values of Malcolm X that education is a human right. As something as Chuck D said when I met him last year, "Education isn't something you can't keep to yourself." When you find an idea that excites you, you should be exuberant to share them with your friends and your family.
That is why I make these graphics.
They excite me.
As an artist I want to express that to the world.
Want to know something? When my children come home from school, and they learn something, they are excited to tell my wife and I about it. How are their school's test scores? Fine, but unlike some schools with high test scores, they are learning something.
Schools are not there to make a profit from. If you are going that, then you aren't educating our children. Children aren't bursting through the door waiting to tell you what they learned today. They teach children values that are not American, and I fear what lessons our children are learning.
