As we discuss how the mainstream corporate media goes out of its way to ignore Bernie Sanders and his ideas because he is seen as a threat to their fleecing of America, we must be creative in coming up with ways to get the word out. The Sanders Campaign has been brilliant in doing this without the use of super-pac money. But you know what Bernie says: We need a political revolution to take back our government from the oligarchs and we all are needed to do whatever we can to put his message out there for those who are thirsty to regain our democracy.
I've been doing whatever I can and it's good to see that Florida is getting organized to support Bernie. It takes a lot of one by one contact to educate people who are not usually tuned on to political news but yet have interest in the issues that affect their lives.
I donate, attend meetings and participate on social media (a little due to time constraints) but what I've found most effective is that I have literally become a billboard for Bernie. Everywhere I go I'm a visible presence of Bernie's campaign. I have two blue
Bernie shirts I wear with everything from shorts to pretty flowered skirts (even wear as a beach cover-up).
I wear them when I use public transport. I make an effort to go to different casual restaurants at busy times so that people will notice my message shirt. I try to sit by myself because that seems to attract many who just come up to me and ask about Bernie. I've begun carrying some info. leaflets about Bernie's policies to hand out if people are interested in learning more and also direct them to the campaign websites.
I was happy to see that I'm not the only one who thinks this is a very effective way to promote Bernie's campaign and ideas. None other than ice cream mogul Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's fame (who is no slouch regarding marketing) says that being a Bernie billboard is something we all can do in addition to donating, knocking on doors etc.
This is my newest Bernie acquisition. I like to pull by hair back in a pony tail in this hot weather and my new Bernie hat will be perfect to pair with my shirt. Just as the Bernie campaign is doing, we have to find ways to overcome the media blackout and becoming a Bernie billboard is something we all can do.
Have you all found some effective ways to promote Bernie in your region?
