Nothing says Christian love like firing a gun. At least, that's according to a church in rural Alabama.
The Rocky Mountain United Methodist Church in Jemison, Ala., wanted "to provide recreational and gun safety in a warm, loving, Christian environment," according to the pastor, the Rev. Phillip Guin. So the church went into the kudzu-filled gully in back of the building and installed a gun range.
The original purpose of the firing range was to teach gun safety. “We had quite a number of church members, some elderly ladies, for example, and some not so elderly women that had purchased guns, but didn’t know how to use them,” Guin says in a report from WIAT.com.
Eventually, the gun range became so popular that it turned into a ministry, the Rocky Mountain Hunt and Gun Club, "as a way to try and bring more members to the church," Guin says. Even the Jemison Police Department uses it regularly as a shooting practice range.
To be fair, this doesn't seem like a situation where the congregation is amassing guns to combat Jade Helm 13. In a rural area, I'm sure many are hunters. And if you're going to own a gun, you need a course to know how to use the weapon safely.
Still, it's a church. They couldn't start a food pantry or a youth club?
There are times when words fail me.
